Kortrijk is referred to as Belgium’s “city of design” because of its many design shops and the large number of design trade fairs which take place here. This beautiful city, which boasts 200 listed buildings, is just 20 minutes’ drive from Lille. Lille, which has a population of around one million, has an unimaginable wealth of tourist attractions. Although you may not be familiar with the city, it is a hugely popular destination. In fact, Lille was Europe’s capital of culture in 2004 and attracted over 9 million visitors that year.

Kortrijk has 200 listed buildings, 2 of which have been named Unesco World Heritage sites. There are also around a hundred valuable façades. Kortrijk also has a large number of historic statues and mills.
In addition, the city is home to a wide range of museums. As well as the new museum Kortrijk 1302, there is the Broelmuseum of visual and applied arts, the Vlasmuseum (Flax Museum), the Bakkerijmuseum (Bakery Museum) and the small Begijnhofmuseum (Beguinage Museum).

How to get there
Take the R8 ring road in the direction of Kortrijk Noord to exit 6. At these traffic lights, take the turning signed “centrum” (Brugsesteenweg N50). At the lights, turn right (Brugsestraat) and continue to the next set of traffic lights. At these lights, turn left towards “centrum” (Overleiestraat). Straight after the bridge, turn left (Dam). Hotel Broel can be found at the end of the street.
