Former Palace of Brussels,
Sandton Hotel Brussels Centre
The Voormalig Paleis van Brussel (Former Palace of Brussels) is just 0.7 km from Sandton Brussels Centre. In the Middle Ages, Brussels was dominated by the colossal Coudenberg Palace. From the 12th century onwards, this architectural entity grew into one of Europe’s most beautiful palaces. It also served as the principal residence of Kaiser Karel. In February 1731, this prestigious building was damaged by fire. Forty years later, the ruins were demolished and the land was levelled to create the Place Royale. During your visit, you will walk along the subterranean Rue Isabelle and discover the main buildings of the former palace. Some of these structures form the foundations of the present-day pavilions of Place Royale.
