A Unique Hotel Collection

Manneken Pis, Sandton Hotel Brussels Centre

The Manneken-Pis stands within walking distance of Sandton Brussels Centre. This little bronze statue is the symbol of the scornful Brussels spirit. It is also known as the “Petit Julien” and used to be one of the numerous fountains that supplied the city with water. Manneken-Pis is now a legendary figure, but there is much else to admire about him. He has, for instance, a wardrobe of 760 richly-adorned costumes which were recently spruced up and are now housed in an attractive setting. Manneken-Pis was given his first costume in 1698, by the Elector of Bavaria. On special occasions, he pees beer or wine instead of water.  In 1985, Manneken-Pis was given a little sister called Jeaneken Pis, who stands in the centre of Brussels. This sculpture was an initiative by the local traders of the day, and was intended to draw more visitors to their street.
