Royal Palace, Sandton Hotel Brussels Centre
The Koninklijk Paleis (Royal Palace) is a 10-minute walk from Sandton Brussels Centre. The Palace is one of the capital’s most beautiful official buildings, and was constructed from the foundations of the Court of the Dukes of Brabant. After the building was destroyed by a fire in 1731, renovation work began in 1820 under the reign of King Willem I. In 1904, alterations were made to that palace by decree of King Leopold II. Today, the Palace serves as a “working palace” where the King of Belgium conducts his official business. He holds audiences there and deals with affairs of state. The palace is also used as a residence by, among others, members of the Royal family and the Royal household. In addition, the palace is made available to heads of state for overnight stays during state visits. The Palace is open to visitors free of charge.
