The Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and of Military History, Sandton Hotel Brussels Centre
The (Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and of Military History) is within driving distance of Sandton Brussels Centre. The museum is noted for its hundreds of thousands of exhibits from 1830 onwards. These objects, ranging from documents to uniforms and scale models, were assembled in 1910 by Louise Leconte. Leconte’s collection was to become a great success and, in recognition of its popularity, the "temporary" museum was transformed into a permanent museum. The collection grew considerably after the First World War and, eventually, had to be relocated to the north wing of the Jubilee palaces. The collection continued to grow, necessitating yet another extension. The museum’s aim is to provide the most complete survey possible of military life and its impact on society, and it will continue to do so for future generations.
