Rijksmuseum, Sandton Hotel De Filosoof
The Rijksmuseum is within walking distance of Sandton Hotel De Filosoof. Both the neo-gothic building in which the Rijksmuseum is housed and the paintings and other art objects within are unique examples. The collection of 17th century paintings is internationally renowned, particularly Rembrandt's masterpieces which include "The Night Watch" and "The Syndics of the Clothmakers’ Guild” The Rijksmuseum also has a collection of paintings by artists including Vermeer, Jan Steen, Frans Hals and Van Ruisdael. Also on display on 17th century dolls’ houses, silverware, Delft Blue, rifles and icons. Although the museum is undergoing extensive rebuilding, restoration and renovation, you can still admire all the masterpieces as usual. No trip to Amsterdam is complete without a visit to the Rijksmuseum.
