A Unique Hotel Collection

Museum Van Loon, Sandton Hotel De Filosoof

Within driving distance of Sandton Hotel De Filosoof is the Museum Van Loon, which is located in a double-fronted canal-side house that is almost entirely unaltered.  The first resident was Ferdinand Bol, Rembrandt’s most famous pupil. In 1973, the wealthy Van Loon entrepreneurial family opened their 17th century canal house to the public. The interior, which is adorned with stuccowork and panelling, the beautifully furnished salon with paintings at the front of the house, the stately bedrooms, the historic kitchen full of silver and porcelain, and the golden ornaments, give the visitor a glimpse into what the life of a wealthy aristocratic family looked like. The garden behind the house, with a view of the façade of the coach house, is also open to the public.
