Rembrandt House, Sandton Hotel De Filosoof
The Rembrandthuis (Rembrandt House) is the former house where famous Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn lived and worked from 1639-1658. This museum is within walking distance of Sandton Hotel De Filosoof. As far as possible, the interior has been restored to its 17th century appearance; the rooms are furnished with art, furniture and exotic objects, sculptures etc. from that period, so that visitors gain a better impression of the living and working environment of one of the greatest of all painters. In the new museum wing, you can see a collection of prints and etchings by Rembrandt and admire paintings by his contemporaries and pupils. There is also a regular programme of changing exhibitions, with work by artists inspired by Rembrandt. A visit to the Rembrandt House is a must for all lovers of Rembrandt.
